The pilot phase consisted in the completion of a health and lifestyle questionnaire, physical assessment, and most of participants also gave biological samples.
Participants provided data in person at assessment centres, via online questionnaires or by mail. The core questionnaire collected information about health and well-being, demographics, health status, family health history, medical history, cancer diagnoses, medication use, sleep patterns, sunlight exposure, diet, alcohol consumption, tobacco use, second-hand smoke exposure, physical activity levels, employment status, and anthropometric measurements. A secondary questionnaire provided additional data about cooking and water sources, allergies, diet, depression, weight, physical activity levels, residential history and occupational and environmental exposures.
Participants also provided physical measurement including height, weight, hip and waist circumference, body composition, and blood pressure.
Biological samples included blood, saliva, urine, and toenails were also collected.
The Atlantic PATH cohort is linkable to administrative health data, including cancer registries, physician billing, hospital discharge abstracts, vital statistics as well as hospital-based and community-based ambulatory care, including emergency rooms.
